Sunday Worship Prep

This encouragement falls under the category of “This is what we do, you don’t have to do it, but maybe it will help you formulate your own way of doing things”!

Let’s talk about Saturday nights. Since Joe has been preaching in some capacity for many of the thirty years we have been married, his Saturday evenings soon became his final prep hours for Sunday morning. And most Saturday nights, whether he is preaching or not, find him in the Word for a good chunk of the evening. Many times, our children join him.

My own choices came around to really trying to practice a sabbath time from Saturday evening until Sunday sundown. Joe, if he is doing it, usually chooses a different time. For me, it doesn’t always happen, but I strive for it. God intends for us to have rest. But man, it is hard to make that choice sometimes when there is always so much that we can be doing!

But one thing that I really try to at least find time to do in the midst, whether I am practicing a sabbath evening or not, is to quiet my heart and prepare myself for Sunday worship. This will usually mean that I already TRY to have plans in place for the next day. That would include Sunday clothing choices for myself and any kiddos (definitely SHOES), hopefully the plan for lunch/dinner, and anything else before a certain time that I have designated (sometimes I try to follow a sundown rule )

So, this is my encouragement. Yes, it may not happen…that’s life. But why not at least try to arrange your time so you have everything ready for a Sunday morning, for yourself or for your family, (admittedly easier right now) so that you can spend some extra time in the Word on your Saturday evening? I can guarantee it will enrich your evening and change how your Sunday morning goes.

I would love to know if you do something similar, or even totally different!
